چکیده

This in vitro study compares the etching effects of acid treatment and Er:YAG laser radiation on the enamel of extracted permanent human molars. Oval cavities in the buccal surface were prepared in the conventional manner and then the edges of the cavities were irradiated by Er:YAG radiation. Laser energy was 105 mJ and 208 mJ and the repetition rate was 1 Hz. The radiation was focused by a CaF2 lens and the sample was placed either in focus or in front of or behind the focal plane. To check the effect of the treatment, 10 samples were etched by phosphoric acid. A comparison of the samples showed that laser treatment also caused a desired roughness of the enamel. In the second part of the study, the cavities were filled with composite resin. Dye penetration in the cavity margin and the space between the composite restoration and enamel and dentin were similar.

The use of sub-ablative Er:YAG laser irradiation in prevention of dental caries during orthodontic treatment.

PURPOSE This « in-vitro » study had two specific aims: the first, to test using a universal testing machine whether sub-ablative Er:YAG laser irradiation prior to acid etching is effective in orthodontic bracket bonding and secondly using micro-hardness measurements and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) observations to investigate the effectiveness of de-mineralization reduction in enamel trea...

بررسی استحکام باند ریزکششی کامپوزیت با بیس سایلوران درسطوح مینایی آماده‌سازی شده با لیزر Er:YAG و فرز

Introduction: Recently, Er:YAG laser has been used for tooth preparations and silorane-based composites have been introduced to dentistry, though investigating this type of composites has received scant attention. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of silorane- based composite (Filtek P90 3M/USA) to enamel sufaces, prepared by Er:YAG laser irradiat...

Effect of surface treatment on enamel surface roughness

PURPOSE To compare the effects of different methods of surface treatment on enamel roughness. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ninety human maxillary first premolars were randomly divided into three groups (n=30) according to type of enamel surface treatment: I, acid etching; II, Er:YAG laser; III, Nd:YAG laser. The surface roughness of enamel was measured with a noncontact optical profilometer. For eac...

Comparison of Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets Bonded to Enamel Prepared By Er:YAG Laser and Conventional Acid-Etching

INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to compare shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded to enamel prepared by Er:YAG laser with two different powers and conventional acid-etching. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty-five human premolars extracted for orthodontic purposes were randomly assigned to three groups based on conditioning method: Group 1- conventional etching with 37% ...

Comparison of Enamel Morphologic Characteristics after Conditioning with Various Combinations of Acid Etchant and Er:YAG Laser in Bonding and Rebonding Procedures: A SEM Analysis

Objectives Many studies have evaluated re-etched enamel by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM); however, there is no evidence regarding the use of Erbium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (Er:YAG) laser at primary and secondary bonding instead of acid etching with regards to enamel surface changes. The purpose of the present study was to determine that whether or not the methods of primary an...

The effect of Er:YAG laser and different surface conditioning procedures on microtensile bond strength of the fissure sealant containing amorphous calcium phosphate after artificial aging.

The present study aimed to compare post-aging microtensile values of fissure sealant(FS) containing amorphous calcium phosphate(ACP) with or without bonding after various enamel-etching methods. The buccal enamel surfaces of teeth were prepared and divided into five main groups according to enamel etching (Group 1; acid-etching, Group 2; air-abrasion, Group 3; 2W, Group 4; 3W, and Group 5; 4W o...
